Beginner courses
In the beginner courses you will build the foundations for speaking, listening, reading and writing in Dutch.
After completing the beginner courses, you will be at level A1 of the CEFR, which means you can have Dutch conversations in basic everyday situations.
The beginner level consists of three courses: Beginner 1, 2 and 3.
Beginner 1
The objectives
In this course you will learn all the basic grammar: the letter sounds, numbers, sentence structures, present tense of basic regular and irregular verbs, pronouns, and telling time.
At the end of the course, you can have a conversation where you greet someone, introduce yourself, introduce someone else, make an appointment, and say goodbye.
Prior knowledge
You don't need any prior knowledge of the Dutch language.
Materials
In the Beginner 1 course we complete chapters 1 to 5 in the book 'Contact! Nieuw 1'.
Beginner 2
The objectives
This course is all about food! You will build onto the foundations of level 1 by expanding your vocabulary and conjugating regular and irregular verbs. You will also learn the plurals, adjectives, comparatives and superlatives, different sentence structures with conjunctions, and the imperative.
At the end of this course, you can order in a restaurant, go shopping at a market, supermarket and clothing store, instruct someone to cook a dish, and talk about your day.
Prior knowledge
To join Beginner 2, you should know: the letter sounds, numbers, simple sentence structures, basic verb conjugations, telling time, and you should be able to have a short conversation when you meet someone.
These skills can be acquired in Beginner 1, but if you have learned Dutch before or spoke it when you were younger, Beginner 2 can also be the right choice for you.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you would like to talk about which course fits you best.
Materials
In the Beginner 2 course we complete chapters 6 to 10 in the book 'Contact! Nieuw 1'.
Beginner 3
The objectives
In this course you will learn to structure your story with advanced sentence structures, use different pronouns, learn the present perfect (perfectum), possessive and object pronouns, and differentiate between future and present tense.
At the end of this course, you can talk about your day, ask and give directions, go to a family party, go to the municipality, and go to the doctor. You will also have reached level A1 of the CEFR and are ready for the Civic Integration Exam Abroad.
You can also continue with the intermediate courses, which finishes at the level you need for the full Integration Exam in the Netherlands (het inburgeringsexamen).
Prior knowledge
To join Beginner 3, you should know: present tense regular and irregular verb conjugations, multiple sentence structures, and you should be able to talk about yourself, work, shopping and eating out.
These skills can be acquired in Beginner 1+2, but if you have learned Dutch before or spoke it when you were younger, Beginner 3 can also be the right choice for you.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you would like to talk about which course fits you best.
Materials
In the Beginner 3 course we complete chapters 11 to 15 in the book 'Contact! Nieuw 1'.
