The Dutch for kids programs at Dutch Academy are taught by an experienced and certified Dutch elementary school teacher with a Master's Degree in educational sciences.

Preschool and kindergarten
For who?
This program is for children between 3 and 6 years old that would like learn Dutch in a playful way. Most children in this program have a Dutch speaking parent to sing songs and practice the vocabulary with them outside of class. You will receive the used classroom materials and tips and ideas to practice Dutch with your little one outside of class.

What do we do?
This program prepares the children for Dutch grade 1 (groep 3). We will sing songs, read books, learn the Dutch alphabet sounds, and practice early reading skills. When children are ready to start reading and writing in Dutch, they will progress to first grade of Dutch elementary school.
All lessons in this course are taught by a certified and experienced Dutch elementary school teacher.

These lessons are available as group lessons or private lessons:

Group lessons

Online group lessons are weekly on Saturdays from 9:30-10:30am PT / 12:30-1:30pm ET.

The costs are $250+tax for a package of 10 lessons.

Currently, there are no in-person group lessons, but please get in touch if you are interested .

Private lessons are tailored to your children's goals.

The costs are $60+tax per hour.

These lessons can be online or in-person (at your house, a library, or my house). In-person private lessons are a minimum length of 1.5 hours.

A private lesson can also be shared between two students.

Elementary school (basisschool)
For who?
This program is for children between 7 and 14 years old that want to follow the official Dutch elementary school curriculum. This program starts at grade 1 (groep 3) and finishes at grade 6 (groep 8), which is the last year of Dutch elementary school.
This is the program for your children if:

They already speak Dutch and would like to learn how to read and write in Dutch, to join their age-appropriate Dutch elementary school level in the Netherlands.

They would like to continue their Dutch elementary school program while living or travelling abroad.

They have finished the preschool/kindergarten program and are ready to start with grade 1.

What do we do?
During the lessons, we use the same materials that are used in Dutch elementary school classrooms:

For grade 1 (groep 3): Veilig Leren Lezen.

For grade 2-6 (groep 4-8): Taal Actief (for reading and writing) and Staal (for spelling).
All levels are taught by a certified and experienced Dutch elementary school teacher.

These lessons are available as group lessons or private lessons:

Group lessons are available with a minimum of 3 students that are roughly at the same level (no more than 2 grades apart from each other). Please get in touch to learn more about the group lessons.

Preparing to study in the Netherlands
For who?
This program is for teenagers that would like to study in the Netherlands after finishing high school, or are looking to continue learning Dutch after finishing elementary school.​​

You will be prepared to take the CNaVT exam and earn the certificate needed to study in the Netherlands.
You can take the CNaVT exam if you are 16 years or older. However, please note that some universities will only accept a certificate that is less than 2 years old.
Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have questions about which certificate is needed for your university program.

What do we do?
During the lessons, we practice reading, writing and speaking using a mix of materials. There is also the option to follow the official Dutch high school program using the method 'Nieuw Nederlands' at your appropriate high school level (VMBO, Havo or VWO).
​All lessons are taught by a certified and experienced teacher and examiner of the CNaVT with a Master's Degree.

For who?
This program is for children between 7 and 14 years old that would like to learn Dutch as a second language.

What do we do?
During the lessons, we use a variety of materials to practice speaking, listening, reading and writing in Dutch. Two of the mainly used methods are:
